As veterans reported to training camp Tuesday morning, the Las Vegas Raiders continued to amplify their roster with five signings – one of them being former All-Pro safety Jamal Adams.

Adams, linked with Pete Carroll and Geno Smith from their time in Seattle, joins the Silver and Black as veteran leadership to the secondary, with hopes of also having a career resurgence.

Here are a few things to know about the Raiders' new safety:

Prez

Adams is known to many NFL fans and his teammates as "President." The moniker is even carried out through his social media handles.

Adams, who coincidently shares the last name with the United States' second and sixth presidents, received the nickname from his teammates at LSU. His natural ability to lead and govern the defense is what led to him being considered "The President" of the defense.

It's a title he didn't take lightly as a Tiger, as he went on to be named a First-Team All-American and All-SEC his junior season. With 42 solo tackles, eight tackles for loss and four pass deflections in 2016, he was drafted sixth overall in the 2017 NFL Draft to the New York Jets.

Immediate presence

Adams enjoyed the bulk of his career success during his tenure with the New York Jets, quickly evolving into one of the best safeties in the league.

His hard-hitting, physical style of play translated into six forced fumbles in his first three seasons. He also accumulated 25 pass deflections and two interceptions in that span. He excelled as a box safety, with his 12 sacks and 28 tackles for loss being the most of any defensive back in the league between 2017-19.

He was named Second-Team All-Pro by his second year in the NFL and First-Team All-Pro in his third season.

Reunited with Pete Carroll

After his second Pro Bowl selection, Adams was traded to the Seattle Seahawks – linking up with Pete Carroll for arguably the best season of his career.

Despite missing four games in 2020, he reached career highs in tackles for loss (11) and sacks (9.5). With the nearly 10 sack season, he broke the record for most sacks by a defensive back in a a single season. He was rewarded by the Seahawks with a contract extension en route to a third Pro Bowl selection and another Second-Team All-Pro nod.

The Seattle Seahawks went 12-4 and were crowned division champions in 2020, the last of Carroll's five NFC West titles as the head coach of the Seahawks.

Call it a comeback?

The last few seasons for Adams has been injury riddled.

Since 2021, he's suffered season-ending shoulder, quad and hip injuries and has missed 40 games of action. He last signed with the Detroit Lions in 2024, playing two games there before being released. He's taken this offseason to rehabilitate and train at a high level, and has said he's in the "best shape of my life," according to his social media.

Adams, 29, effectively becomes the longest tenured NFL player in the Raiders secondary and the only player within his position group with a Pro Bowl selection.
