Los Raiders volvieron a vivir una tarde complicada en casa tras caer 34-10 ante los Gigantes de Nueva York en el Estadio Allegiant, resultado que extiende la racha negativa del equipo a 10 derrotas consecutivas y deja su marca en 2 ganados y 14 perdidos a una semana de cerrar la temporada regular.
El partido comenzó con señales alentadoras. La defensa de los Raiders logró detener a los Gigantes en sus primeras dos series ofensivas, forzando despejes y dándole buenas posiciones de campo al ataque negro y plata. Sin embargo, el momento clave llegó justo antes de terminar el primer cuarto.
Con Las Vegas estando en la zona roja, Geno Smith fue interceptado por Bobby Okereke, una jugada que cambió por completo la inercia del encuentro. A partir de ahí, Nueva York tomó el control y ya no lo soltó: consiguiendo dos anotaciones y un gol de campo en sus siguientes tres series, para irse al medio tiempo con una ventaja de 17-3.
Los Raiders salieron con mejor ritmo en la segunda mitad. Una serie ofensiva de 14 jugadas y 65 yardas terminó en pase anotador de Geno Smith con Tyler Lockett en cuarta oportunidad, obteniendo Lockett su primer touchdown como jugador de Las Vegas y el número 62 de su carrera. Fue su primera anotación desde el 3 de noviembre de 2024, cuando aún vestía el uniforme de los Halcones Marinos. Así fue como los Malosos recortaron su desventaja a 20-10 y devolvieron algo de vida al Estadio Allegiant.
Pero la reacción duró apenas unos segundos.
En la patada de salida consecuente, el esquinero Deonte Banks regresó el balón 95 yardas hasta la zona de anotación, marcando la tercera ocasión en la temporada en la que un rival le anota a los Raiders mediante equipos especiales con un regreso de patada. En medio del resultado adverso, Michael Mayer fue el punto más alto de la ofensiva. El ala cerrada firmó el mejor partido de su carrera en la NFL, con 9 recepciones para 89 yardas, ambas cifras máximas personales. Además, logró cinco recepciones de al menos 10 yardas, empatando la mayor cantidad en un solo juego para un ala cerrada de los Raiders esta temporada.
Con esas nueve recepciones, Mayer se convirtió en el décimo ala cerrada en la historia de la franquicia en registrar nueve o más recepciones en un solo partido, y apenas el segundo en hacerlo en el 2025, junto a Brock Bowers (12 recepciones ante los Jaguares). Mayer también estableció una nueva marca personal en una temporada con 32 recepciones, acumulando 281 yardas y un touchdown en el año.
"Por Brock Bowers", es como Carroll explicó por qué el protagonismo de Mayer tardó en llegar durante la temporada. "Michael suplió de manera admirable a uno de los mejores jugadores de nuestra liga y hoy hizo un gran trabajo. No puedes lanzar 20 pases a las alas cerradas en un juego porque se reparte entre varios. Hoy Mike tuvo la oportunidad de ser el foco y respondió totalmente. Fue físico, creativo, atrapó todos los balones. Me pareció un juego hermoso de Michael".
Aun así, un Michael Mayer inspirado estuvo lejos de ser suficiente para evitar otra derrota.
Otro nombre que sigue destacando es el de Ashton Jeanty. El corredor terminó el partido con 73 yardas totales, incluyendo 60 por tierra en 16 acarreos y dos recepciones para 13 yardas.
Con esa producción, Jeanty llegó a 1,227 yardas totales en la temporada 2025, uniéndose a Brock Bowers (1,207 en 2024) y Josh Jacobs (1,316 en 2019) como los únicos tres novatos en la historia de los Raiders en superar las 1,200 yardas desde la línea de golpeo en su primer año.
Además, sus 888 yardas terrestres lideran a todos los novatos de la NFL esta temporada, al igual que sus 1,227 yardas totales, la mayor cifra entre novatos en cualquier posición.
En una noche complicada, Tommy Eichenberg volvió a destacar en equipos especiales. El linebacker terminó con tres tacleadas en cobertura de patadas y tres a la defensiva, y ahora lidera a los Raiders con 21 tacleadas en equipos especiales en el 2025, el tercer mejor registro en toda la NFL.
Por su parte, el novato Tonka Hemingway consiguió la segunda captura de mariscal de campo de su temporada de novato, convirtiéndose en uno de apenas 20 jugadores en la historia de los Raiders en registrar múltiples capturas en sus primeros ocho partidos de carrera.
Tras el partido, el head coach Pete Carroll habló sobre el impacto de las ausencias clave tras colocar en lista de reservas lesionados a Maxx Crosby, Brock Bowers y Jeremy Chinn, titulares indiscutibles de los Raiders quienes se perderán los últimos dos juegos de la temporada.
"Creo que el problema es que esos jugadores no estaban disponibles y bajamos un nivel", aseguró Carroll. "Michael Mayer tuvo un gran partido para nosotros hoy, de verdad, un gran juego reemplazando a Brock. No puedo decir que alguien en la defensiva haya logrado compensar completamente la ausencia de Maxx, pero lo intentamos. Hicimos todo lo que estuvo a nuestro alcance para sacar un buen juego.
