Las Vegas cerró la temporada 2025 con una nota positiva: una victoria por marcador final de 14-12 sobre los Jefes de Kansas City que no solo rompió una racha de 10 derrotas consecutivas, sino que también marcó la primera vez que los Raiders derrotan a Kansas City en el Estadio Allegiant. Además, también es la primera victoria divisional desde el cierre de la campaña 2023, cortando así una sequía de 11 juegos contra rivales del Oeste de la Americana donde no pudieron salir airosos.
Ambos equipos llegaron al encuentro con bajas importantes, incluídos sus mariscales de campo titulares. La defensa de los Raiders capitalizó al no tener que enfrentarse a Patrick Mahomes y fue dominante, limitando a los Jefes a apenas 168 yardas totales, la cifra más baja permitida por el equipo en un partido esta temporada y la menor desde la Semana 16 del 2021.
La defensa de los Raiders se mostró implacable y registró un total de 8 capturas de mariscal de campo, tres de las cuales fueron contra Chris Oladokun en la primera mitad, y cinco más sobre Shane Buechele en la segunda mitad. Charles Snowden, el novato Tonka Hemingway y Tyree Wilson terminaron con un par cada uno.
Wilson duplicó su total de la temporada a 4, y ambas capturas terminaron convirtiéndose en puntos: en la primera forzó un balón suelto sobre Oladokun que derivó en el primer gol de campo de Daniel Carlson en el partido, y la segunda fue dentro de la zona de anotación contra Buechele en el último cuarto, resultando en un safety, el primero para los Raiders desde el 15 de octubre del 2023 ante los Patriotas.
En el lado ofensivo, con Geno Smith descartado por una lesión de tobillo, Kenny Pickett y Aidan O'Connell compartieron los snaps en la posición de quarterback. Pickett comenzó el partido y jugó solo el primer cuarto, mientras que O'Connell se encargó del resto del juego, la primera vez que vio el campo en un partido oficial desde el último juego de la temporada pasada.
"Fue genial para muchos chicos que han pasado por mucho este año", destacó O'Connell sobre cerrar la campaña ganando. "Y sí, yo también he pasado por mucho, y no soy el único. Básicamente, todos lo hemos hecho cuando se pierde así, desgasta a compañeros, entrenadores, familias, todo. Así que, genial terminar con una victoria".
Con el ataque no encontrando la forma de meterse a las diagonales, la responsabilidad de anotar puntos quedó en el pie derecho de Daniel Carlson, quien conectó los cuatro goles de campo que intentó, incluyendo el más largo de su carrera en los segundos finales del encuentro para poner al frente de manera definitiva a los Raiders en el partido donde se convirtió en apenas el segundo jugador en la historia de la franquicia en anotar al menos 900 puntos portando los colores negro y plata.
"Hay una conciencia de la situación, obviamente, pero para mí trato de manejar cada patada de la misma manera", es como Carlson describió su preparación sabiendo que el partido estaba en la línea. "Paso por mi rutina previa y eso. Era un gol más largo, sabía la situación. Fue divertido terminar la temporada así".
Los Raiders concluyeron la temporada 2025 de la misma manera en la que la comenzaron, con una victoria. Pero, a pesar de que los resultados no los acompañarlos al solo ganar una vez en los 15 partidos entre la semana 1 y la 18, la actitud dentro del vestidor siempre fue de trabajar duro y hacer su mejor esfuerzo para poner al equipo en el camino correcto.
"Supongo que es mejor que estuviéramos haciendo todo el trabajo y haciendo lo correcto que no hacerlo", reflexionó Carlson sobre el proceso del gran esfuerzo sin ver los resultados de manera constante. "Fue difícil porque los resultados no llegaban, pero a veces así es la vida. Creo que es un testamento al carácter de nuestros entrenadores y nuestro equipo, que seguimos concentrados, evitando todo el drama, y simplemente trabajando. Soy un gran creyente, igual con mis patadas, se trata más del proceso que del resultado. Eso es lo que uno puede controlar. Solo intentamos controlar el proceso, hacer lo correcto esperando que sume. A veces entra la patada, a veces no. Pero si haces bien el proceso, entrará más veces que no".
Con esta victoria, los Raiders cierran la temporada con un récord de 3 ganados y 14 perdidos, pero lo hacen con un triunfo que les permite terminar con optimismo y motivación de cara al futuro, a sabiendas que tienen la primera selección del draft 2026 de la NFL.
