Los Raiders vivieron otra noche complicada en el Estadio Allegiant Stadium. Las Vegas comenzó con energía, con una defensa agresiva que marcó el tono en el inicio, pero la ofensiva no pudo convertir oportunidades clave y los Vaqueros de Dallas aprovecharon la mayoría de las suyas rumbo a una victoria contundente por 33–16.
"Fue una noche difícil", dijo el entrenador en jefe Pete Carroll quien no ocultó su frustración. "No hicimos las cosas como queríamos en ninguno de los dos lados del balón. Estábamos emocionados por la oportunidad y queríamos salir a buscarlos y competirles".
Los Raiders iniciaron de forma ideal: tres series defensivas sólidas, presión constante y un momento clave cortesía de Maxx Crosby, quien provocó un balón suelto al capturar a Dak Prescott, con el novato Tonka Hemingway recuperando el ovoide en la yarda 15 de Dallas. Era exactamente el tipo de jugada que Las Vegas necesitaba para tomar control del partido temprano.
Sin embargo, la ofensiva no logró capitalizar esos impulsos defensivos. Dos viajes a la zona roja terminaron únicamente en goles de campo, dejando escapar la posibilidad de construir una ventaja mayor.
"Tenemos que anotar touchdowns en la zona roja, así de simple", reconoció Geno Smith sin rodeos. "Ellos estaban jugando cobertura retrocediendo y prácticamente invitándonos a correr el balón en esas situaciones. Intentamos nuestros pases y no convertimos. Todos tenemos que jugar mejor. Yo tengo que hacerlo mejor y ser mejor para mis compañeros",
El primer cuarto terminó 6–3 en favor de Las Vegas, pero ahí se acabó la producción ofensiva en la primera mitad. A partir del segundo cuarto, los Vaqueros dominaron completamente el ritmo del juego. Aprovecharon castigos, la falta de protección y errores en momentos clave para armar tres series consecutivas de touchdown. Las Vegas, en cambio, no pudo sostener series ni evitar situaciones de largo yardaje. Con el marcador 24–9 al descanso, el panorama lucía preocupante.
La primera serie de la segunda mitad confirmó esos temores: un tres y fuera inmediato de los Raiders, seguido por otra anotación de Dallas que estiró la ventaja y dejó el partido prácticamente sentenciado.
La ofensiva se cargó hacia el ataque aéreo, eliminando el balance que se ha visto anteriormente con el equipo negro y plata. Los Raiders terminaron el partido con 42 pases lanzados, Geno Smith completó 27 de ellos para 268 yardas, un touchdown y una intercepción.
Entre los puntos altos estuvo Brock Bowers al acumular 7 recepciones para 72 yardas, además de Tre Tucker quien consiguió 4 recepciones para 47 yardas y el único touchdown del equipo.
"A veces, cuando conseguimos un primero y diez, simplemente empezamos a avanzar y solo necesitamos mantenernos en ritmo", explicó Bowers sobre la importancia de que la ofensiva pueda iniciar sus series con jugadas positivas. "Como dije, no meternos en problemas con castigos o jugadas negativas. Primera oportunidad, ganar algunas yardas; segunda oportunidad, ganar un poco más; y llegar a una tercera oportunidad manejable."
El juego terrestre desapareció. La estadística más alarmante vino con Ashton Jeanty solo sumando 6 acarreos para 7 yardas, y tres de esos acarreos fueron detenidos detrás de la línea de golpeo. Terminó aportando también seis recepciones para 27 yardas, pero nunca encontró espacio contra una defensa de Dallas que dominó en las trincheras.
"Solo perseverancia, seguir confiando en mi fe y confiar en Dios", mencionó Ashton Jeanty sobre el reto mental que implica su primer año. "Obviamente, las cosas no están saliendo como yo quisiera, pero ya está escrito. Lo que venga en el futuro sucederá, y solo tengo que seguir adelante y terminar fuerte la temporada."
Las ausencias de Kolton Miller y Jackson Powers-Johnson fueron imposibles de ocultar. La línea ofensiva tuvo problemas para abrir huecos y mantener limpio el bolso de protección. Jordan Meredith fue enviado de centro, donde ha jugado 9 partidos esta campaña, a guardia derecho para este partido, con Will Putnam entrando como centro al jugar como titular por primera vez en su carrera en la NFL. La falta de cohesión se notó, y Dallas la explotó sin piedad.
"La competencia durante la semana, y lo que ha pasado estas últimas dos semanas, hemos estado evaluando todo", fue como Carroll explicó las decisiones tomadas con las combinaciones en la línea ofensiva. "Probamos combinaciones, vimos todas las opciones y sentimos que esta era la mejor manera de salir. Jordan Meredith tuvo una temporada sólida el año pasado como guardia y se sintió cómodo moviéndose. Probamos con Caleb Rogers. Ustedes siguieron todo eso, y analizamos distintas combinaciones. Esta fue la mejor manera que creímos que era para hacerlo".
Por segunda vez en la temporada 2025, los Malosos han sufrido cuatro derrotas de manera consecutiva, cayendo en ocho de sus últimos nueve encuentros y teniendo una marca de 2 ganados y 8 perdidos tras once semanas de acción en la temporada 2025.
"Creo que el año pasado también fue duro,estamos más o menos igual que en aquel entonces", dijo Bowers al reconocer el peso emocional de temporadas difíciles consecutivas. "Es complicado pasar dos años seguidos con situaciones similares. Solo hay que mantener la cabeza abajo, seguir trabajando y seguir tratando de mejorar."
Los Raiders ahora deberán recuperarse rápido, porque el calendario no da tregua. El domingo recibirán a los Cafés de Cleveland, que llegarán con una de las defensas más físicas de la NFL y un reto monumental en Myles Garrett, uno de los jugadores más dominantes que la liga ha visto en la última década.
Con su línea ofensiva golpeada y la ofensiva buscando identidad, Las Vegas necesitará su mejor versión para evitar que la temporada se siga complicando.
