First Looks - Cleveland Browns

The Raiders host the Cleveland Browns at O.co Coliseum in Week 13 of the 2012 regular season. The two teams first met in 1970 and have faced each other 19 times with the Raiders leading the all-time series 11-8, including a Week 6 win last season. The Raiders have emerged victorious in two playoff appearances against the Browns  - 1980 AFC Divisional Playoff, also known as the "Red Right 88" game, and the 1982 AFC Wild Card Playoff.

Coach

The Browns are coached by Pat Shurmur, who is headed into his second season leading Cleveland. In his first season as head coach, the Browns finished with a 4-12 record. Prior to being appointed head coach in January 2011, Shurmur was the offensive coordinator for the St. Louis Rams (2009-10), quarterbacks coach for the Philadelphia Eagles (2002-08), tight ends/offensive line coach for the Eagles (1999-01), offensive line coach for Stanford University (1998) and tight ends/special teams/offensive line coach for Michigan State (1990-97).

Last Five Match Ups The Raiders hosted the Browns in 2012 Week 6 and beat Cleveland 24-17 in the first game in Oakland after the passing of Al Davis. WR/KR Jacoby Ford returned a kickoff 101 yards for a TD to start the 2ndquarter and RB Darren McFadden recorded 91 receiving yards and a TD. The Raiders special teams executed a fake punt and P Shane Lechler threw a perfect pass to TE Kevin Boss for a TD. The Raiders lost 23-9 to the Browns on Sunday, December 27, 2009 at Cleveland Browns Stadium. K Sebastian Janikowski scored all of the Raiders points with field goals, including a 61-yarder, tying a then-career-best. TE Zach Miller caught nine passes for 110 yards.

[internal-link-placeholder-0] In Week 3 of the 2007 season, the Raiders beat the Browns at home 26-24. RB LaMont Jordan rushed 29 times for 121 yards and a TD and WR Ronald Curry caught three passes for 62 yards and a TD. K Sebastian Janikowski kicked four field goals and FS Michael Huff tied for the team lead in tackles with five.

The two teams met in Week 4 of the 2006 season in Oakland and the Raiders fell 24-21. RB LaMont Jordan had 20 carries for 128 yards and a TD and RB Justin Fargas added 54 yards on three carries. S Stuart Schweigert led the team with nine tackles. The Raiders hosted the Browns in Oakland in Week 15 of 2005. The Silver and Black lost 9-7 despite 132 rushing yards and 40 receiving yards from RB LaMont Jordan.

Story Lines Browns defensive line coach Dwaine Board was the Raiders defensive line coach in 2009.

Mike Wilson, Cleveland's wide receivers coach, was the Raiders wide receivers coach from 1995-96.

Browns K Phil Dawson was signed by the Raiders as an undrafted free agent in April 1998.

NT Travis Ivey started one game for the Browns in 2010 and registered one tackle.

LB Travis Goethel will see former Arizona State teammate Browns OL Shawn Lauvao.

WR Juron Criner played with Browns CB Trevin Wade at Arizona.

WR Darrius Heyward-Bey played at Maryland with Broncos TE Dan Gronkowski.

CB DeMarcus Van Dyke and TE Richard Gordon will see former Miami (FL) teammate, Browns 4th round pick WR Travis Benjamin.

OL Stefen Wisniewski, DE Jack Crawford, LB Nathan Stupar and S Chaz Powell played at Penn State with Browns WR Jordan Norwood and DL Scott Paxson.

WR Denarius Moore will see his former Tennessee teammate RB Montario Hardesty. QB Matt Leinart will face former USC teammate Browns DE Frostee Rucker.
