Los Raiders vivieron una tarde complicada en el Estadio Lucas Oil al caer 40-6 frente a los Potros de Indianápolis, en una actuación en la que nada pareció funcionar como se esperaba. "Fue realmente decepcionante para nosotros salir al campo y tener tantas dificultades para meternos en el juego", aseguró Carroll. "El juego se nos escapó porque no pudimos anotar lo suficiente. Están ocurriendo jugadas grandes en nuestra contra que tenemos que solucionar, tenemos que limpiar el juego. Las patadas bloqueadas y los cambios de campo significativos son enormes de manejar."
Las Vegas sumó múltiples pérdidas de balón por tercera vez en los últimos cuatro juegos, además de tener una patada bloqueada por segundo partido consecutivo, en esta ocasión, además, dejando lesionado a AJ Cole.
"Creemos que vamos a ser mucho mejores que esto", dijo Carroll, quien a pesar de la frustración ofreció un mensaje de responsabilidad colectiva, convencido de que el grupo aún puede enderezar el rumbo. "Los entrenadores lo creemos, los jugadores lo creen, y sentimos que podemos demostrarlo con la forma en que estamos trabajando y preparándonos. Pero hay que llevarlo al campo, y no lo hemos hecho lo suficiente en las últimas semanas. El juego contra Washington fue similar a este, simplemente no pudimos salir de nuestro propio camino. Tenemos mucho trabajo por hacer. Tenemos que seguir creyendo y seguir demostrándolo."
Geno Smith y la ofensiva de los Malosos se vio truncada de gran forma después de su primera serie, donde se metieron a la zona roja y se terminaron conformando con un gol de campo tras consumir cerca de 10 minutos en el reloj. Fue otra tarde complicada para el ataque negro y plata, en la que sufrieron dos intercepciones, sin poder conseguir un solo touchdown por segunda vez en la campaña 2025.
"Estamos todos juntos en esto", aseveró Carroll sobre su apoyo a Smith. "Hablamos de todas las conversaciones difíciles, de las cosas en las que quizá no coincidimos y de las que sí, y luego lo unimos todo. Seguimos trabajando. La intención y el propósito están ahí, están conectados. Solo tenemos que obtener los resultados, tomar las decisiones correctas, hacer las elecciones adecuadas, trabajar con nuestros jugadores experimentados —con los que tienen opinión y conocimiento— y Geno es uno de esos tipos."
Si hubo una luz entre las sombras, fue el novato Ashton Jeanty, quien registró 109 yardas totales (67 por tierra y 42 por aire), convirtiéndose en el primer novato de los Raiders en sumar más de 100 yardas totales en juegos consecutivos desde que Hunter Renfrow en diciembre del 2019.
"En la ofensiva simplemente no terminamos las series en zona roja. Para mí, eso es todo," dijo Jeanty al reconocer que la ofensiva no ejecutó en los momentos claves. "Tenemos que mejorar y capitalizar en esas oportunidades. No hay una sola respuesta (al problema), solo debemos regresar, ver el video, que cada quien se mire al espejo y vea cómo puede mejorar."
Este es un momento clave para que los líderes en el vestidor no permitan que los ánimos se caigan a pesar de que los resultados deseados y por los que trabajan no se han obtenido.
"Yo empiezo mirándome al espejo," comentó el linebacker Devin White. "Lo primero que hago es subirme al autobús, evaluar el video, analizarme y corregirme antes de ir a hablar con los demás. Así puedo ver cómo unirnos más, porque estamos juntos en esto. No nos criticamos en el campo, no nos quejamos, siempre tenemos la mentalidad de la siguiente jugada. Pero tenemos que encontrar ese eslabón perdido que nos permita unir todo, estar en la misma sintonía y avanzar desde ahí."
Después de dos derrotas consecutivas, los Raiders regresan a Las Vegas para enfrentar a los Titanes de Tennessee en la Semana 6, en busca de reencontrarse con su identidad y con su afición en el Estadio Allegiant.
El staff de coacheo espera recuperar a varios titulares y reducir los errores que han costado juegos. El mensaje dentro del vestidor es claro: el trabajo, la unión y la fe siguen intactos.
"Sé que no se está viendo ahora, pero este equipo va a mejorar," reiteró Carroll. "Seguiremos creyendo, seguiremos luchando y encontraremos el camino. Lo hemos hecho antes, y lo volveremos a hacer."
Aunque la derrota por 40-6 duele, en la NFL las temporadas no se definen por las caídas, sino por cómo se responde a ellas. Y en Las Vegas, el compromiso sigue firme: levantar cabeza, aprender de los golpes y mostrar su verdadero nivel ante su gente.
