Los Raiders vivieron una tarde complicada en Washington, donde cayeron 41-24 frente a unos Commanders que aprovecharon cada oportunidad que tuvieron en casa. El resultado no refleja lo que el equipo de Las Vegas busca ser en el 2025, pero el mensaje desde el vestidor es claro: no hay excusas, se asume la responsabilidad y se trabaja más fuerte de cara a lo que viene.
"No jugamos bien, hay que hacerlo mejor. No importa si es semana corta, todos los equipos pasan por eso", dijo el ala defensiva Maxx Crosby sobre el haber jugado con menos de una semana entre partidos al considerar que su juego de la semana dos fue en lunes por la noche. "Es cuestión de prepararse. No habrá excusas en este grupo, todos sabemos que hay que asumir la responsabilidad. Ahora viene Chicago en casa y tenemos mucho trabajo por hacer".
La línea ofensiva sigue sin encontrar la manera de mantener vertical al mariscal de campo o de abrirle huecos al ataque terrestre del equipo, teniendo que despejar el balón tres veces en sus primeras cinco series ofensivas durante la primera mitad. Sin embargo, el corredor Ashton Jeanty, logró tener su mejor partido en la NFL al sumar 63 yardas terrestres en 17 acarreos, tres de los cuales fueron de al menos 10 yardas y entre los cuales consiguió 45 yardas.
"Tenemos que balancear más lo que hacemos. No corrimos nada al inicio, y cuando lo hicimos, avanzamos y conseguimos anotaciones", aseguró el entrenador en jefe Pete Carroll. "Ashton aprovechó sus oportunidades, jugó duro y mostró de qué está hecho. Fue un buen partido para él en un contexto difícil. Pero no empezamos bien y hasta que encontramos ritmo fue difícil. Debemos lograr esa mezcla de pase y carrera que nos dé ventaja en lugar de sentirnos golpeados".
El receptor abierto Tre Tucker superó sus marcas personales como profesional al acumular ocho recepciones para 145 yardas y tres anotaciones, aunque su gran actuación quedará opacado por el descalabro. Los Malosos dejaron escapar oportunidades cuando el juego aún estaba al alcance cuando comenzó la segunda mitad, pero no movieron las cadenas en sus primeras dos series y Washington regresó la segunda patada de despeje del tercer cuarto para anotación por conducto del novato Jaylin Lane. Ese fue el punto donde Washington comenzó a separarse de manera considerable en la pizarra.
"Siento que no hicimos lo suficiente en ninguna fase: ofensiva, defensiva o equipos especiales", declaró el mariscal de campo Geno Smith. "Les dimos demasiado. Estuvimos empatados temprano y hubo oportunidad de tomar control, pero lo dejamos escapar. En la segunda mitad no anotamos y ellos sí, se fueron arriba por múltiples posesiones y de ahí el juego se nos fue. Hay muchas cosas que podemos hacer mejor."
A pesar de que los resultados de las últimas dos semanas no han sido los esperados y la marca del equipo ahora es de un triunfo por dos derrotas, los Raiders mantienen firme la convicción de que la temporada es larga y que todavía hay mucho por delante. El grupo no baja los brazos, al contrario, sabe que cada semana representa una nueva oportunidad para corregir, crecer y demostrar el carácter de un vestidor unido.
"Nada se está viniendo abajo, es la Semana 3 de la NFL y queda mucha temporada", asegura Smith. "No es fácil perder, quieres ganar siempre, pero esa no es la realidad. La realidad es que tenemos muchas batallas por delante. Cada jugador aquí va a mantenerse unido, hombro con hombro. Si hay que señalar a alguien, que me señalen a mí, y lo vamos a corregir."
La adversidad también golpeó al equipo en la posición de ala cerrada. Sobre el final del primer cuarto, en la cobertura de una patada de despeje, Michael Mayer sufrió una conmoción cerebral que lo dejó fuera el resto del encuentro, complicando aún más la rotación de los Raiders. Su ausencia se suma al hecho de que el titular, Brock Bowers, ha venido arrastrando una lesión de rodilla que ha limitado su explosividad después de brillar con 5 recepciones y 103 yardas frente a Nueva Inglaterra. En los dos partidos más recientes, Bowers ha terminado con exactamente 38 yardas.
"He estado trabajando cada semana para estar lo más saludable posible el día del partido", dijo Bowers. "Tengo que usar la rodillera. A veces es frustrante, pero quiero jugar, quiero estar ahí con mis compañeros, así que tengo que hacer lo que tenga que hacer."
La derrota en Washington deja a los Raiders con marca perdedora por primera vez en la temporada 2025, pero dentro del vestidor no hay pánico. El equipo reconoce sus errores, asume la responsabilidad y mantiene firme la convicción de que todavía hay mucho camino por recorrer en esta campaña.
Los reflectores ahora se dirigen a Las Vegas, donde el equipo recibirá a los Osos de Chicago la próxima semana en el Estadio Allegiant.
