Un duelo competitivo y cerrado disputaron los Raiders en Las Vegas frente a los Osos de Chicago, en el cual tuvieron la ventaja por gran parte del encuentro, pero que se les fue de las manos en el cierre para terminar perdiendo por la mínima diferencia, 25-24. A pesar del descalabro, el equipo dejó muestras de crecimiento, entrega y estrellas emergentes que mantienen viva la ilusión de lo que está por venir.
El corredor novato Ashton Jeanty firmó una actuación espectacular, la mejor hasta el momento en su joven carrera en la NFL, al sumar 155 yardas totales y tres anotaciones. Con ello demostró que su impacto ofensivo puede ser un pilar fundamental para el futuro inmediato del equipo. Esto después de que entre sus primeros tres partidos acumuló 147 yardas y una anotación.
"Pude ver todo con claridad, gran movimiento en la línea y logramos desgastar a la defensiva rival", dijo Jeanty sobre los linieros ofensivos de Las Vegas, quienes fueron clave en su actuación. "(Pero) para mí todo se trata de ganar, no de logros personales. Prefiero obtener victorias por encima de mis propios números"
A pesar de que el resultado final fue adverso, este encuentro dejó señales positivas para la Raider Nation. El balance ofensivo y el esfuerzo defensivo hacen pensar que este grupo tiene todo para seguir creciendo semana a semana. El equipo mostró que tiene piezas clave para dar pasos firmes hacia adelante.
"Fue un gran partido para nosotros, y cuando revisé el video, no vi nada más que aspectos positivos", aseguró el entrenador en jefe Pete Carroll. "Tener un corredor que es una amenaza real nos da mucho mejor balance en lo que presentamos al rival. Eso es lo que siempre he buscado, y sentí que esta fue la primera vez que realmente se vio así. Vamos a seguir haciendo las cosas que hacen que un equipo de fútbol americano se imponga a sus oponentes."
No obstante, los errores aéreos volvieron a pasar factura. Por segundo partido seguido en casa, Geno Smith lanzó tres intercepciones, y ya suma siete en lo que va de la temporada, la mayor cifra de la NFL. Estas pérdidas de balón pusieron al equipo en una posición complicada, pero a pesar de las siete veces que le han entregado el ovoide al rival como local en el 2025, solamente han recibido 16 puntos provenientes de ellas.
"Antes que nada, le debo a mis compañeros salir y jugar mejor", aseguró Smith, quien encabeza la liga con siete intercepciones tras cuatro semanas de acción. "Sentí que tuvimos una gran semana de práctica, el plan de juego fue excelente y todos pelearon hasta el final. Ellos merecían esta victoria y yo los decepcioné. Tengo que arreglar muchas cosas dentro de mí, no voy a endulzarlo: debo ser mucho mejor. Soy mejor de lo que mostré, y voy a trabajar con orgullo para corregirlo."
Y si la ofensiva batalló con entregas, la defensiva respondió con su líder, porque parte importante de que Chicago no pudiera capitalizar de gran manera en las pérdidas de balón de Las Vegas fue el accionar que tuvo un Maxx Crosby dominante, terminando con 5 tacleadas, 3 tacleadas para pérdida de yardaje, 3 pases defendidos, un balón suelto forzado y su primera intercepción como profesional.
"Siempre voy a salir a dar lo mejor cada vez que pise el campo", sentenció Crosby. "Mi (estilo de) juego es salir y destrozar todo, y siento que lo hago a un nivel muy alto. Pero no fue suficiente. Tengo que hacer más. Todos como equipo tenemos que hacer más para ganar".
Después de observarlo a la distancia por 6 temporadas, ahora el coach Carroll puede disfrutar de tener a Crosby de su lado, algo aún más especial tratándose de un entrenador con mentalidad defensiva.
"Cada vez que está en el campo, Maxx hace que las cosas pasen", dijo Carroll. "Lo enfrentan con dobles bloqueos, corren lejos de él, pero aún así genera jugadas por el lado débil. Estuvo cerca de dos intercepciones. Lo mejor de todo es que ese es Maxx: es auténtico, es un placer verlo jugar y liderar. No podría estar más orgulloso de él."
Si bien el marcador no favoreció a Las Vegas, los Raiders disfrutaron de ver a Ashton Jeanty robarse los reflectores, una defensiva liderada por Crosby que nunca se rinde y un equipo que empieza a encontrar su identidad. La resiliencia se pondrá a prueba de inmediato, especialmente con las lesiones sufridas por Kolton Miller (tobillo) y Eric Stokes (rodilla) en la segunda mitad.
Con un espíritu combativo y jóvenes estrellas dando pasos de gigante, los Raiders salen de este partido convencidos de que lo mejor está por venir. Ahora buscarán transformar esas señales positivas en victorias cuando visiten a los Potros de Indianápolis en la Semana 5.
