In a different reality, Jack Bech's older brother, Tiger, and Aidan O'Connell's older brother, Sean, would've been good friends.

As they reflected on the lives and the personalties of their brothers, there are a lot of similarities. Both expressive. Both caring. Both went out their way to be a lending hand.

"Definitely the life of the party kind of guy," Aidan O'Connell said. "Any room he was in, he was definitely making his presence known. Very sweet, cared about our family, cared about his friends. I only have great memories of memories."

"My brother Tiger, definitely vibrant," Jack Bech said. "He always stood up for the person he felt didn't have a voice. He always fought that fight for the people he felt couldn't fight their own fight. He was definitely a person that put others first. Whenever he walked into a room, he lit it up."

Under tragic circumstances, neither Sean O'Connell nor Tiger Bech got to see their little brothers play in an NFL game.

Sean passed away unexpectedly from cardiac arrest on Nov. 23, 2022, at the age of 27.

"I took the news hard as you'd expect," Aidan O'Connell said. "Just trying to play like he's still here. He's not here anymore, but I know if he was I know he'd have a great time watching me. So, trying to bring a joy of that perspective to the game."

Tiger, a former wide receiver at Princeton University, was killed in a Bourbon Street terrorist attack in New Orleans on Jan. 1, 2025. He was also 27 years old.

"I'm truly so blessed and thankful to have the Lord and my brother as my greatest guardian angels," Jack Bech said. "Whenever you think of the perfect big brother in every way, shape and form, that's who he was."

For the NFL's My Cause, My Cleats initiative, these two Raiders are using their platforms to honor their brother's legacies.

For a second season, the quarterback's cause is the Sean M. O’Connell Foundation. Created by his family in 2023, the foundation's purpose is to raise money and awareness for nonprofit organizations that Sean passionately supported, including By the Hand, Tunnel to Towers, Arthritis Foundation, Silver Birch Ranch and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

O'Connell, recently activated from injured reserve, will suit up for the first time this season in these customized cleats on the three year anniversary of Sean's passing.

"To give back through the foundation I think is huge for my family and I," he said. "As long as I'm in the NFL, this is going to be what's on my cleats."

For Bech, his cause is the Tiger Bech Memorial Fund, which his family hopes to launch later this year. They drew inspiration for the foundation based off their experiences putting Tiger to rest.

"We have a very close community where I'm from in South Louisiana, Lafayette. With funerals, people don't really realize they're very expensive," Bech said. "Tens of thousands of dollars. Our community helped pay for that funeral. That's going to be our mission, is cover those fees so families can just focus on healing and getting better and not have to worry about paying for those funerals."

"To be able to do what I love but at the same time, being able to raise for a foundation for one of the people I loved the most in this earth – my brother – just a really cool thing that they do with My Cause My Cleats," he added. "I'm just super excited to go rep my brother, I rep him every day in everything I do."

Bech got his first opportunity to see the cleats Wednesday evening, and was left in shock. The body of the cleat is painted orange with black tiger stripes – not not only an homage to his brother's name but his college mascot at Princeton. Tiger's No. 7 is on the back heel of the cleats with a portrait of his face painted on the inside of each.

"These are the coolest cleats you'll ever see," Bech told his teammates during his unboxing.

And with their painted cleats, not only will O'Connell and Bech spread awareness for important causes, but use their shared experiences to connect as teammates.

"I had talked to him a little bit about it," O'Connell said. "It's hard to lose anyone suddenly, especially when it's a sibling and someone who is passing away way too young. It's definitely a connection that we have. I think every situation is different, but there is a lot of similarities and ways we can help each other and we have so far."
