ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have signed free agent **DE Alex Barrett**, the club announced Friday.
Barrett enters his first season with the Raiders having most recently been with the San Diego Fleet in the American Alliance Football league. Before joining the AAF, Barrett spent the majority of the 2017 and 2018 campaigns on the Detroit Lions' practice squad, while also appearing in a total of two contests and recording one tackle.
In his short stint with the Fleet, the 6-foot-3, 260-pound defensive end recorded 15 tackles and added two sacks in eight contests.
A native of Mesa, Ariz., Barrett played four seasons (2013-16) at San Diego State. He appeared in 50 games and recorded 19 sacks, tied for fourth-most in school history. Barrett also tallied 170 tackles over his career and finished seventh on the school's all-time tackles for loss list with 40. As a senior in 2016, he made 14 starts and notched 54 stops (29 solo), posting team highs with 7.5 sacks, 13 tackles for loss and four passes defensed.
