Raiders Mailbag: What adjustments might be made in the next 5 games?

D. Hackman from Texas asks:

"How can Greg Olson's changes to offensive playcalling improve their production?"

Multiple people on the team, including Greg Olson himself, have noted that not much has changed regarding the actual plays being called as we're now in the later stretch of the 2025 season.

If anything has changed since Olson has taken over as playcaller, it's when certain plays are being called.

"I think just kind of trying to set things up throughout the course of the game," Ashton Jeanty said when asked about Olson's play style, "whether it's running a play action off our run schemes, and then just setting it up throughout the course of the game. But also, coming in and we're making adjustments in halftime, and knowing what we're going to come out with, and attacking and trying to execute that."

Right tackle DJ Glaze echoed Jeanty's sentiment, noting Olson's adjustments and situational playcalling focus is to get the running back heavily involved in the gameplan.

"The biggest thing for us is we want to tie the run game together," Glaze said. "We want to play a complete game. So we want to get the run going and the pass going and be able to pick and choose whichever one we want to do. That opens up the play action and [deep] shots and all that. So the biggest thing for us is get the run going and make it complementary."

Bryan Shettler from Calgary AB, Canada asks:

"Who should get a shot from the practice squad?"

One player in particular who's making the most of his opportunities is cornerback Greedy Vance.

The former USC Trojan signed to the team's practice squad after training camp and has been elevated to the active roster twice.

After playing seven defensive snaps with a tackle against the Chargers, he was signed to the active roster Tuesday.

"I feel so positive about his ability," Carroll said. "He's got a real knack about making plays, and he's got great confidence. That is what the players have that are willing to take the chances. He's got that. And he's a really good tackler for a smaller guy. And he's just been, obviously, a guy who could make a play, and we've seen it all through camp and in the offseason and all of that. So, I'm glad that he's one of the guys that's benefiting from the time on task, and we like what he does."

Vance credited the likes of Carroll, Darnay Holmes and Isaiah Pola-Mao as those who have helped him progress as a rookie. The biggest things he believes has helped him get to the active roster is that he's been soaking in everything he can along the way.

"On this level when you're a rookie, a lot of the coaches assume you don't anything and you just have to learn to be humble," he said. "You have to learn to be coachable. You have to learn how to apply coaching and do it consistently no matter what you know or what you think you know. You have to continue to humble yourself and just listen and apply every day."

Another practice squad player who's earned game reps is Atonio Mafi. The former New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts guard was elevated with Vance to the active roster Week 13 and lined up at right guard for 31 snaps.

Carroll mentioned earlier this week that Mafi will continue competing for reps at right guard in the case that the next man up is needed again.
