A look at the NFL Draft history of the No. 6 overall pick

There's been a lot of good fortune historically associated with the No. 6 pick in the NFL Draft.

Since 1936, 45 players drafted at that spot have been selected to a Pro Bowl. Of those 45, six have been drafted within the past 10 seasons. This includes 2024 NFL Rookie of the Year finalist Malik Nabers and 2020 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Justin Herbert, a division rival for the Raiders.

Over the last 15 years, offensive line has been the most heavily drafted position group taken at No. 6. This has included Pro Bowlers Quenton Nelson, Ronnie Stanley, Jake Matthews and Russell Okung.

Okung, selected by the Seattle Seahawks in 2010, also happened to be Pete Carroll's first draft pick in his tenure as the team's head coach.

There have been 15 players selected with the sixth pick that've been enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Some of the more notable players of that list include three-time NFL MVP Jim Brown, the former record-holder for career rushing yards (12,312); quarterback Sammy Baugh, the innovator behind the forward pass; and Super Bowl XVII MVP John Riggins, a fullback for Washington.

Three of the Hall of Famers drafted at No. 6 have also played for the Raiders. Tim Brown, drafted by the Los Angeles Raiders in 1988, remains the franchise leader in career receptions (1,070), receiving yards (14,734) and receiving touchdowns (99).

Eight-time Pro Bowler James Lofton, originally drafted by the Green Bay Packers, was traded to the Raiders in 1987, catching five of his 75 career touchdowns in his tenure with the Silver and Black.

Richard Seymour, who racked up three Super Bowls with the New England Patriots, was traded to the Oakland Raiders in 2009. In his four seasons with the team, he totaled 18.5 sacks and 27 tackles for loss while earning his last two of seven career Pro Bowl nods.
