Health Services Technician (HS3) Amber DeGouveia was chosen as the GovX Hero of the Game for the Raiders preseason home opener against the Detroit Lions. DeGouveia is stationed at the Alameda Clinic at Coast Guard Island where she serves as a pharmacy technician.
DeGouveia was on the field to observe pregame warm-ups and was very excited to partake in the evening's festivities.
"The whole experience has been overwhelming for the most part," she said. "This is the first time I've ever been close to anything like this. I appreciate it. I've gotten a lot of gratitude from people that are here so that's been really nice as well."
Amber has been active duty since 2006 and in addition to her work as a pharmacy technician, she started a babysitting CO-OP with other Coast Guard families.
Prior to the toss, the Miami, Fla., native had a few nerves floating in her stomach but she overcame them and performed her duties to perfection.
She is a mother of two and wanted to make sure to say a special hello to her children Andrew and Myla who were tuning in from Miami.
