Oakland Raiders Select Shalom Luani In Seventh Round Of 2017 NFL Draft

The Oakland Raiders have selected defensive back Shalom Luani in the seventh round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

SENIOR (2016): Named to Polynesian College Player of the Year Watch List…named All-Pac-12 Conference First Team…named All-Pac-12 second-team by The Associate Press and Phil Steele…started final 12 games…third on team with 68 tackles and second on team with 8.5 tackles-for-loss including two sacks…tied for fifth in Pac-12 with four interceptions…also made six pass breakups and forced one fumble…missed season-opener against Eastern Washington…made four tackles, shared a tackle-for-loss and picked off two passes at Boise State…had a tackle-for-loss in win over Idaho…made six stops including one for loss in win over Oregon…had four tackles and an interception in the win at No. 15 Stanford…recorded two tackles-for-loss in win over UCLA…had five tackles including first career sack in win at Arizona State…made season-high eight tackles with one for loss in win at Oregon State…had a sack and an interception in win over Arizona…made seven stops in win over California…made six tackles and two pass breakups at No. 12 Colorado…recorded seven tackles and forced a fumble against No. 6 Washington…made team-best nine stops against Minnesota in the Holiday Bowl.

JUNIOR (2015): Started all 13 games, earning 2015 All-Pac-12 honorable mention honors…named to Polynesian College Football Player of the Year Watch List…totaled 90 tackles, third on team, with three tackles-for-loss, four interceptions, six pass break-ups, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery… his four interceptions led WSU and tied for fourth in the Pac-12 while his 10 passes defended tied for 11th in the conference.…earned Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week honors after posting 11 tackles and two interceptions in win over Oregon State…his first pick against OSU he took 84 yards for a touchdown…also named the Jim Thorpe Player of the Week for his efforts against the Beavers…had season-high-tying 11 tackles against Wyoming and Washington…had five tackles, all solo, and two TFLs, in win at No. 18 UCLA…had eight tackles and game-ending interception in overtime in win at Oregon…had four tackles, along with late interception to seal Sun Bowl victory over Miami.

JUNIOR COLLEGE CAREER

Attended City College of San Francisco… as a FRESHMAN, earned All-California Region I First Team accolades after making 49 tackles, seven interceptions and recovering four fumbles…as a SOPHOMORE, named First-Team All-American, California Community College Defensive Player of the Year, Region I First-Team All-California and Region I Defensive Player of the Year…also named Bay 6 Conference Defensive Player of the Year after recording 69 tackles, six tackles-for-loss with four interceptions and two forced fumbles…helped CCSF to an 11-2 record, a California Community College Athletic Association Northern California title…was named the CCCAA State Championship Defensive Player of the Game after making a team-high eight tackles, including two for loss…rated four-star prospect and the No. 19 overall junior college prospect by Scout.com…rated the No. 1 junior college safety in the country by 247Sports and No. 38 in the ESPN JC50, the top 50 prospects by ESPN.com.

PERSONAL

Born in Pago Pago, American Samoa…parents, Penitito and Niukini…brothers, Tui and Poy…sisters, Makerita, Sina and Elisa…high school teammates with current Cougar nose tackle Robert Barber…also played soccer, known for scoring during American Samoa's first FIFA-sanctioned win against Tonga in November 2011…scored twice for American Samoa that game, making him the territory's joint top goalscorer of all time with fellow forward Ramin Ott…. Also that year, was a member of the American Samoa senior team that represented the territory in the 2011 Pacific Games.
