Los Raiders de Las Vegas cerraron su pretemporada 2025 con una derrota de 20-10 frente a los Cardenales de Arizona en Glendale. Los Malosos no pudieron culminar con triunfo un duelo de exhibición que, más allá del marcador, sirvió para dar las últimas impresiones de varios jugadores que buscan un lugar en el roster final.
Uno de los puntos positivos de la noche fue la actuación de la ofensiva titular, que por tercer partido consecutivo tuvo la responsabilidad de arrancar las acciones. Geno Smith comandó a los Raiders a la zona de anotación con un pase anotador de 17 yardas con el receptor abierto novato Dont'e Thornton Jr. quien dejó buenas sensaciones al aprovechar su estatura y velocidad.
"Creo que esto definitivamente debería ayudar a su confianza y espero que veamos beneficios a partir de eso", dijo el entrenador en jefe Pete Carroll sobre Thornton. "Ha trabajado muy duro, ha corrido más yardas y cubierto más terreno que cualquiera en nuestro equipo porque seguimos tratando de desarrollar con él el juego profundo. Es un gran complemento a lo que hacen Jakobi Meyers, Brock Bowers y Tre Tucker. Tenemos la posibilidad de tener un ataque aéreo muy sólido".
En cuanto al juego terrestre, si bien los Raiders utilizaron al novato sensación Ashton Jeanty al correr el ovoide dos veces para cinco yardas, los Malosos le dieron protagonismo a Zamir White, quien ha vivido un gran campo de entrenamiento y el equipo está buscando establecerlo como una pieza física e importante del cuerpo de corredores.
"Eso era parte del plan, Queríamos darle el balón y dejar que castigara un poco, mostrar lo que ha estado haciendo", aseguró Carroll sobre White. "La semana pasada solo tuvo un acarreo y esta vez queríamos darle alrededor de ocho, y estuvo cerca. Confiamos mucho en él como ese corredor físico que cambie el ritmo. También me gustó mucho cómo corrió Raheem Mostert, se vio explosivo y fuerte por dentro".
Mientras elementos de la defensa titular vieron acción en el primer cuarto, incluyendo Maxx Crosby que tuvo una tacleada para pérdida de yardaje, Malcolm Koonce y Jonah Laulu, quienes se compartieron una captura de mariscal de campo, además de Tyree Wilson quien estuvo presionando de manera continua al quarterback rival. Uno de los jugadores más destacados es uno que está peleando por su puesto en el equipo, el esquinero Greedy Vance, quien llegó a los Raiders como agente libre no drafteado y terminó la noche con una captura y dos tacleadas detrás de la línea de golpeo.

"Es un jugador que hace jugadas", declaró Carroll sobre Vance. "La semana pasada volví a ver sus videos universitarios para confirmar lo que estamos viendo aquí, y es lo mismo. Es muy agresivo, muy instintivo y se arriesga. Lo ha hecho en las prácticas constantemente, ha hecho muchas jugadas grandes y es un gran competidor. Nos ha gustado mucho lo que ha mostrado."
La nota negativa en el ensayo final de la pretemporada para Las Vegas fue la lesión de Aidan O'Connell, quien estará fuera de acción de 6 a 8 semanas por una lesión en su muñeca derecha. Ante este panorama, los Raiders exploran opciones para reforzar la posición de quarterback suplente detrás de Geno Smith.
"Todas las posibilidades están abiertas", aseveró Carroll en su conferencia de prensa del domingo. "Estamos buscando en todos lados al mejor jugador que se ajuste a nosotros. No voy a detallar lo que buscamos porque no quiero mostrar nuestras cartas, pero quiero a alguien que ya haya jugado en la NFL. Esa experiencia en partidos es muy importante. Tenemos a Cam Miller, pero él no tiene experiencia en la liga, por eso buscamos a un mariscal con recorrido que pueda ayudarnos".
El martes a la 1:00 p.m. (hora del Pacífico) vence el plazo para que todos los equipos de la NFL rebajen sus plantillas de 90 a 53 jugadores, por lo que estos días serán decisivos en la conformación del grupo que encarará la campaña regular.
Los Malosos estarán manteniendo la mira puesta en los más de 1,100 jugadores que sean liberados durante los cortes finales, para ver cual podría encajar bien en la plantilla de Las Vegas para reforzar el plantel.
Con los juegos de pretemporada del 2025 ya en el pasado, los Raiders podrán enfocar su atención en su partido de debut de campana regular el domingo 7 de septiembre, cuando visiten a los New England Patriots en Foxborough.
