Los Raiders de Las Vegas demostraron que están construidos para responder ante la adversidad.
Lo que parecía encaminarse hacia la primera derrota del año terminó convirtiéndose en una de las remontadas más impresionantes de Las Vegas en tiempos recientes. Los Malosos borraron una desventaja de 11 puntos en la segunda mitad, impulsados por las cuatro pérdidas de balón que generaron en el último cuarto para imponerse a los Santos 35-27 en Nueva Orleans.
Con la victoria, Las Vegas comienza la temporada 2026 con marca de 3-0, uno de apenas cinco equipos que han ganado sus primeros tres partidos del año. Y, sobre todo, los Raiders demostraron que todavía tienen respuestas cuando las cosas se complican.
La ofensiva de Las Vegas puso puntos en la pizarra en cada una de las cuatro series ofensivas que tuvieron en la primera mitad. Las cuatro posesiones llegaron hasta la zona roja, pero únicamente una terminó en touchdown: un pase de Kirk Cousins a Michael Mayer. Las otras tres concluyeron con goles de campo de Matt Gay.
La defensa también tuvo momentos importantes durante la primera mitad, consiguiendo dos series de 'tres y fuera'. Sin embargo, Nueva Orleans encontró la manera de mover el balón en sus otras dos posesiones, recorriendo más de 70 yardas en series de al menos 10 jugadas que terminaron en touchdowns.
A pesar de dejar puntos sobre la mesa, los Raiders construyeron una ventaja de 16-13 al medio tiempo.
El tercer cuarto comenzó de la peor manera posible para Las Vegas. Los Raiders se fueron de tres y fuera en su primera serie y, posteriormente, los Santos construyeron una serie de 87 yardas que terminó en touchdown para ponerse al frente en el marcador. Esto fue seguido por Dylan Laube perdiendo el balón en el regreso de la patada de salida y Nueva Orleans necesitó solamente dos jugadas para aprovechar el error y ampliar su ventaja a 27-16, la más grande del partido.
En ese momento, Las Vegas tenía todas las razones para sentirse contra las cuerdas. Pero este equipo no bajó los brazos.
"Lo único que sé es seguir jugando", aseguró el mariscal de campo Kirk Cousins. "Cosas así te hacen más fuerte. Si juegas suficiente tiempo, acumulas cicatrices. Duele, pero simplemente sigues jugando".
La ofensiva respondió de inmediato en lugar de permitir que el partido se escapara. Mike Washington Jr. tomó el balón y recorrió 35 yardas hasta las diagonales para conseguir el primer touchdown de su carrera en la NFL, reduciendo la diferencia y cambiando nuevamente el rumbo del partido.
A partir de ahí, la defensa tomó el control. Y lo hizo de una manera espectacular.
Los Raiders provocaron cuatro pérdidas de balón durante el último cuarto, convirtiendo las primeras dos directamente en touchdowns para tomar la ventaja y utilizando las otras dos para consumir tiempo y cerrar definitivamente el partido.
"Sabíamos que teníamos que reagruparnos y comenzar a jugar nuestro estilo de fútbol americano", aseveró el linebacker Nakobe Dean. "Nuestro estilo de juego es quitarle el balón a nuestro rival. Tenemos que salir cada semana y ver cuántas pérdidas podemos conseguir. No tuvimos ninguna en la primera mitad, así que teníamos que regresar fuertes en la segunda mitad y lo hicimos".
Kirk Cousins lanzó tres pases anotadores por tercer partido consecutivo, el último de ellos siendo con Brock Bowers, quien terminó su partido de debut en la temporada con 10 recepciones para 116 yardas y un touchdown. La conexión fue inmediata entre estas dos piezas ofensivas de Las Vegas, a pesar de que el ala cerrada estrella no pudo jugar en las primeras dos semanas debido a una lesión de rodilla.
"Fue difícil lidiar con ello durante el campamento. Pensé que no era nada. Pensé que desaparecería para el inicio de la temporada", dijo Bowers sobre su lesión. "Tenía que solucionarlo antes de la larga temporada que tenemos por delante. Estoy contento de estar de regreso. Fue divertido estar ahí afuera con todos los muchachos".
Con la marca de 3-0, los Raiders ya igualaron la cantidad de triunfos que consiguieron durante toda la campaña 2025. Pero esa no es la vara con la que se mide a esta versión de los Malosos. El camino apenas comienza y el objetivo es seguir construyendo hasta encontrar la mejor versión de este equipo.
"Tenemos mucho trabajo por hacer. Es temprano, es septiembre", declaró el ala defensiva Maxx Crosby. "Todos en el vestidor están jugando los unos por los otros. Es así de simple. Creo que a los muchachos les gusta estar juntos. Les gusta trabajar juntos y encontrar soluciones en lugar de quejarse y buscar una salida".
Esa mentalidad fue puesta a prueba en Nueva Orleans. Los Raiders estaban abajo por 11 puntos en el tercer cuarto. Terminaron ganando por ocho.
Las Vegas regresa a casa compartiendo el primer lugar de la división oeste de la conferencia americana con Kansas City, quienes también han comenzado la temporada con tres victorias consecutivas. Y precisamente los Jefes son su próximo oponente en lo que será su primer partido como locales desde el encuentro inaugural de la temporada ante Miami.
Pero como lo ha dicho este equipo desde el inicio de la temporada, el objetivo sigue siendo el mismo: seguir encontrando soluciones, enfocarse en la preparación diaria y jugar el siguiente partido.
Por ahora, los Raiders tienen tres victorias. Y después de lo ocurrido en Nueva Orleans, también tienen una remontada que puede convertirse en uno de los momentos que defina su primera mitad de la temporada.
