What They're Saying: Patriots prepare to take on a Raiders squad led by 'one of the best coaches in the history of our league'

Take a look at what the Patriots players and coaches had to say ahead of Sunday's matchup.

On the Raiders as a whole:

"The Raiders are a tough team. They've got playmakers all over the field. One of the best tight ends, wide receivers, running backs. It'll be a great challenge for us as a defense." – Patriots LB Robert Spillane

"It's a great football team. They have an organization where they have a lot of guys who play hard on the field." – Patriots CB Marcus Jones

"Obviously, they're going to run the football. They've got a veteran quarterback but a high draft pick here with Jeanty. They've got some good young skill. Bowers is obviously elite. Defensively, it's a veteran group. They have very good specialists. Their punter is excellent. Their field goal kicker is excellent." – Patriots Head Coach Mike Vrabel

On Head Coach Pete Carroll:

"Pete's one of the best coaches in the history of our league and has done it in pro football for a long time at an elite level. Coached in college football, same thing. Produced wherever he's been. Always has an incredibly difficult defensive perspective. ... He's evolved and I think that's the sign of a great coach. He's evolved what he's done depending on the people that he has." – Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.

On tight end Brock Bowers:

"He's a receiver in a tight end's body. He can catch the ball, he can block, he can make contested catches, he can do everything. That's why he was an All-Pro. He's a good player, one we've got to pay attention to." – Patriots defensive coordinator Terrell Williams

On running back Ashton Jeanty:

"He can beat you running. He can beat you catching. He's a physical, physical player. You don't see a lot of running backs drafted in the top 10 and for him to go in the top 10, there's a reason for it. He's an every down back. He can catch, he can block, he can run. When you watch him in the preseason, he's just a downhill, hard runner that's going to present a lot of challenges for us." – Patriots defensive coordinator Terrell Williams

On the Raiders' offensive players:

"What terrific young skill players. I mean, Brock Bowers plays like a wide receiver. He's a willing blocker. Jeanty, powerful, fast, continues to move his feet after contact, breaks a lot of tackles. Speed on the outside, savviness with [Jakobi] Meyers. Big physical offensive line. So, that will be a challenge when you talk about that. Geno really does a nice job of taking care of the football. Very good completion percentage, so he knows where he wants to go with the football." – Patriots Head Coach Mike Vrabel

On expectations of what they'll see from Chip Kelly's offense:

"Chip's offense has expanded and grown. I mean, Chip used to call it on an index card. He had seven plays, and they just were really good at them and they went really fast. So, I think that that's all evolved from the stuff at UCLA, from the stuff at Ohio State, to what he'll do with those skilled players that we mentioned with the Raiders." – Patriots Head Coach Mike Vrabel

On the Raiders defense:

"Obviously, [Maxx] Crosby jumps out on tape, and they've got some veteran linebackers, some guys that play hard and come up and hit you. I think they're good at what they do. You're going to know that they're going to bring it every play. For us, we've just got to stay ahead of the chains and try to do our best to get off to a good start." – Patriots quarterback Drake Maye

On DE Maxx Crosby:

"No. 98, he's a great player in this league, plays hard, plays with a lot of effort." – Patriots quarterback Drake Maye

"Great player. Definitely earns every bit of respect he's gotten in this league." – Patriots tight end Austin Hooper

"Everybody knows Maxx. Everybody knows him. He's that guy." – Patriots wide receiver DeMario Douglas

On defensive coordinator Patrick Graham:

"He's a sharp coach. He's a great guy. ... I'm excited for the opportunity to go against his defense in a real situation, not practice." – Patriots wide receiver Mack Hollins

On punter AJ Cole:

"I think AJ, man, he's so consistent and he never gets rattled. It doesn't matter what happens in a game for him. When you watch him punt – whether it could've been a block punt or whatever it may be, he comes back the next rep, he just plays his game and he's consistent at what he does. And he's confident. ... I love it, man. He sets the standard for specialists around the league. That's why he's an All-Pro. Got nothing but a lot of respect for the guy." – Patriots special teams coordinator Jeremy Springer

On special teams coordinator Tom McMahon:

"He does a lot of different things and he schemes up very well what you're not good at. It's going to be a challenge." – Patriots special teams coordinator Jeremy Springer
