Q&A with Caleb Rogers on growing up in Texas and coming into his own as a player

As the Raiders' 2025 draft picks go through their first NFL training camp, Raiders.com's Levi Edwards is sitting down with each player for a Q&A.

Next we take time to talk with third-round pick Caleb Rogers.

Levi Edwards: You're a Texas guy so I've got to ask you, what's your go-to Whataburger order?

Caleb Rogers: "Patty melt. The thing about it is it comes with onions. Grilled onions are fire, but some places doesn't do it right. So sometimes I might get onions, sometimes not, but patty melt, large fry, large Sprite."

LE: Can you describe what high school football is like back in Texas?

CR:"It's nice because it allows you to adjust to that type of environment and that type of pedestal people put you on earlier in your career. In high school, you really get to enjoy it because you're a kid, but when you're in the NFL, that's not going to help you do your job. How many fans are there and how loud the stadium is isn't going to help you do your job. The older you get, the more you realize that's it's about doing your job."

LE: How much did playing at Texas Tech mold you as a player and as a person?

CR: "Molded me more than anything in my life. I spent five years there so going through as much as I did, trying to become the player that I wanted to become, it just changes you. Being a leader on that team, going through the ups and downs of coming in as a young guy trying to play early to being a fifth-year guy getting called 'Unc.' It's an insane transition trying to help those young kids you see yourself in. I talk to those coaches all the time because I have a lot of respect for them and I appreciate what they've done for me. It molded me a lot as a man."

LE: What it is like competing against guys like Maxx Crosby in practice?

CR: "It's very interesting because, I say this a lot, this business becomes very casual. On the way, you transition into a different space where no one cares about your aura or who you are. It's an awesome experience. It's great to get to around these type of high-level guys where you can pick their brains and have these conversations with them and try to adapt yourself to the same type of way. But at the same time, we all are our own men. Maxx Crosby is showing me the blueprint, but I'm not going to follow him around and try to do everything he does and be him, because I'm not. But he's giving me the blueprint."

LE: Your fiancee and daughter were at practice for Family Day, how much of an impact do they have in your life?

CR: "We had Callie [his daughter] right out of high school and COVID [pandemic] was at the same time. Me and Chloe went through our ups and downs, but being where we are now and having God as the foundation of our relationship has been everything for us. It's allowed us to continue to push forward every single day and we're hoping that can be an inspiration to other people. Knowing that they're out here is incredible and being able to do it for them is incredible. I wouldn't have it any other way."
