DespuĂ©s del primer dĂa obligatorio de descanso, los Raiders regresaron al campo de practicas y despuĂ©s de la misma el Coordinador de Equipos Especiales, Rich Bisaccia, atendiĂł a los reporteros por primera ocasiĂłn durante el campamento.
El encargado de los equipos especiales hablĂł de varios temas, en particular sobres sus dos pateadores de despeje y los centros especialistas.
El pateador Daniel Carlson parece ser el Ășnico jugador del grupo con su lugar asegurado pues despuĂ©s de un buen primer año en el 2018, el egresado de Auburn no tiene quien le haga sombra en el 2019 lo cual indica que los Raiders esperan resultados similares de su parte aunque el mismo Carlson dirĂa que no es el mismo del año pasado.
"Creo que es mas fuerte y creo que se conoce mejor que el año pasado cuando lo contratamos." Ha trabajado mucho en él mismo" dijo Bisaccia.
Aunado a esos comentarios de su entrenador, Carlson es el Ășnico pateador en la plantilla de 90 jugadores y Bisaccia ha estado monitoreando la cantidad de patadas que ha realizado durante el campamento en Napa.
"Va a patear de vez en cuando," explicĂł Bisaccia. "No deberĂa haber situaciĂłn alguna, posiblemente una que otra en el campamento en patee dos dĂas seguidos, pero por ahora lo hara solo de vez en cuando. Normalmente no es mas de 15-17 jugadas en formaciĂłn antes del periodo de equipo. DespuĂ©s es entre cinco o seis."
En lo que se refiere a los pateadores de despeje, A.J. Cole y Johnny Townsend, la situaciĂłn es otra.
Townsend fue el encargado de los despejes el año pasado en los 16 partidos de la temporada regular, sin embargo, el novato Cole le harå competencia.
"Tiene una pierna fuerte," dijo Bisaccia de Cole. "Tiene un sentido natural, muy parejo en relación a sus errores, pero la libra. Es alguien que le pega arriba al balón y ha mejorado su técnica de para detener el balón. Tambien puede dar patadas iniciales, asi que nos da un poco de ventaja en ese sentido al tener dos jugadores que pueden dar las patadas iniciales durante le pretemporada."
Los especialistas en despejes han alternado los dais desde que llegaron a Napa y este dĂa le correspondiĂł a Cole, por lo que Townsend fue espectador la mayorĂa del tiempo.
"Creo que tuvo un buen receso de temporada," dijo Bisaccia en relaciĂłn a Townsend. "Tuve oportunidad de platicar bastante con Ă©l en Alameda. Creo que tuvo un buen receso de temporada. Creo que encontrĂł de nuevo su punterĂa y eso es lo que mejor le sale, asĂ que veremos conforme avance el campamento como va, pero creo que estuvo bien el otro dĂa. Se que puede despejar mejor."
Por ultimo, Bisaccia también dio sus comentarios sobre los dos jugadores que buscan ser los encargados de centrar el balón en jugadas especiales,
Trent Sieg y Andrew DePaola.
ÂżQue es lo que se busca en un especialista de estos?
"Muchas cosas," explicĂł Bisaccia. "Todo, desde donde van las cuerdas en el balĂłn hasta su habilidad para proteger el hueco principal y el secundario en los esquemas de protecciĂłn en los despejes. Su habilidad de estar atentos a los cambios de la lĂnea defensiva y hacer los ajustes necesarios en la ofensiva. ambos han jugado por mucho tiempo. Trent [Sieg] ha jugado en 15 y Andrew [DePaola] en otro tanto, asĂ que serĂĄ una buena competencia. Ambos estĂĄn en buena condiciĂłn. Estamos contentos que Andrew este saludable, asĂ que tambiĂ©n los vamos a rotar durante el campamento."
Antonio Brown, Derek Carr entre otros han sido el enfoque del campamento por obvias razones, pero no hay que menospreciar a los especialistas.
