En un duelo cargado de emociones, los Raiders de Las Vegas y los Halcones Marinos de Seattle terminaron empatados 23-23 en su primer compromiso de la pretemporada 2025. El partido, disputado en el Lumen Field, tuvo de todo: ventajas amplias, remontadas y jugadas que mantuvieron a la afición al filo de sus asientos.
Los Raiders llegaron a estar abajo por 13 puntos, después de lo que el entrenador en jefe Pete Carroll describió como un primer cuarto 'miserable', pero mostraron carácter y energía para regresar en la segunda mitad la cual Carroll dijo fue 'maravillosa' para su equipo.
"Nuestra capacidad de seguir regresando", fue lo que sobresalió para el nuevo entrenador de los Malosos. "Nuestra banca estaba encendida. Los muchachos entendieron de qué hablábamos. Solo se necesita (estar en posición de) una jugada al final para poder lograrlo, y tuvimos la oportunidad de sentir eso. Lo más importante es que llevemos esto hacia adelante, que sepamos que nunca estamos acabados, que nunca se ha terminado. Vamos a seguir luchando hasta tener la oportunidad de ganar el partido".
La gran mayoría de los titulares para Las Vegas vieron acción en este partido, incluído el mariscal de campo Geno Smith, quien comandó a la ofensiva en la primera serie, logrando meterse a territorio enemigo con un pase de 15 yardas a Tre Tucker, pero tuvieron que despejar el ovoide poco después.
"Creo que el hecho de elegir las jugadas en el huddle con el ruido de la afición, tener el reloj corriendo, estar contra el tiempo… toda la mecánica que se necesita para salir, ejecutar y jugar fútbol americano", fue como Geno destacó el valor de vivir la experiencia real de un día de juego previo al inicio de la campaña. "Creo que esas eran las cosas que queríamos asegurarnos de hacer, y creo que lo logramos".
El sexto pick del draft 2025, Ashton Jeanty, participó en seis jugadas donde tuvo tres acarreos y también sirvió como distracción en jugadas de engaño que el equipo parecía iba a correr el balón y terminaron lanzándolo.
Los Malosos tuvieron una primera mitad complicada, donde solo anotaron puntos en una de sus seis series ofensivas. Mientras que los Halcones Marinos tuvieron cinco posesiones previo al medio tiempo, obteniendo dos touchdowns y un gol de campo en ese lapso para irse al descanso arriba 16-3.
"Creo que comenzamos muy lento, algo que es de esperarse en un primer juego de pretemporada", declaró Smith sobre el rendimiento del equipo. "Hubo muchas rotaciones distintas, muchos jugadores diferentes en el campo. Los muchachos tienen que acostumbrarse a taclear y recibir golpes, todas las cosas que trae la pretemporada. Pero creo que en la segunda mitad jugamos un fútbol americano muy inspirado. Para ser un juego de pretemporada, los muchachos compitieron e intentaron ganar. Me pareció muy bueno".
La segunda mitad fue una historia diferente para Aidan O'Connell, quien tras ser interceptado dos veces en el segundo cuarto, arrancó el tercer parcial completando cinco pases consecutivos para meter a los Raiders a la zona de anotación, culminando la serie con una conexión de 6 yardas con Dylan Laube para el touchdown con el que hicieron el partido uno de una posesión y acercándose aún más la siguiente vez que tomó el ovoide al poner al equipo en posición para obtener un gol de campo.
El novato Cam Miller ingresó al emparrillado con Las Vegas teniendo un déficit de 23-13 y el ex-jugador de North Dakota State lució para Las Vegas, completando 6 pases en 7 intentos para 76 yardas y una anotación, la cual se dio con un pase de 41 yardas a Shedrick Jackson para acercar a los Malosos 23-20.
"Nos da muchísima energía, porque es la primera vez que nos juntamos como grupo bajo Pete, con energía nueva", aseguró Jackson tras encabezar al equipo con 4 recepciones para 76 tardas y una anotación. "Esto ha sido divertido. La energía ha cambiado. Ha sido un gran ambiente, nos encanta ir a trabajar todos los días, y hoy fue simplemente el resultado de todo ese trabajo que hemos puesto."
La defensa hizo lo suyo en las últimas dos series de los Halcones Marinos, en primera instancia al parar a Seattle en cuarta oportunidad con una yarda por avanzar, regresándole el balón al equipo para anotar un gol de campo que empató el juego a 23 y posteriormente con menos de un minuto restante el agente libre no drafteado Treven Ma'ae capturó a Jalen Milroe en tercera y diez para que Las Vegas tuviera la oportunidad de poder ganar el juego.
"Mis objetivos para esta noche eran simplemente jugar rápido, físico, con violencia y hacer mi trabajo", dijo Ma'ae, quien destacó con dicha captura y al bloquear un punto extra en la primera mitad que terminó marcando la diferencia en la pizarra. "Solo quiero devolverle el balón a la ofensiva y dejar que hagan lo suyo. Estoy orgulloso de lo que mostré hoy. Hay cosas por corregir. Algunas jugadas que me gustaría intentar de nuevo. Pero estoy orgulloso del cierre".
Con solo un tiempo fuera disponible y 25 segundos restando en el juego, la ofensiva de los Raiders comandada por Cam Miller movió el balón 31 yardas para poner a los equipos especiales en posición para intentar un gol de campo de 55 yardas de Daniel Carlson, el cual terminó siendo bloqueado para dejar el marcador igualado a 23 puntos por bando.
Al final, ambos equipos sacaron lecciones y sensaciones positivas de cara a las próximas semanas de preparación, que para los Raiders incluye una práctica en conjunto con los 49ers el jueves 14 de Agosto y posteriormente el único partido de pretemporada que disputarán en el Estadio Allegiant este año al recibir a San Francisco el sábado 16 de Agosto.
