Los Raiders y los 49ers volvieron a verse las caras en un duelo de pretemporada que no decepcionó. San Francisco se llevó la victoria 22-19 gracias a un gol de campo de 59 yardas con el reloj expirando, pero más allá del resultado, los Malosos dejaron destellos que ilusionan de cara a la campaña 2025.
Desde el inicio, la ofensiva comandada por Geno Smith mostró chispazos de lo que puede ser este año. En la primera jugada de los Malosos, lograron meterse a territorio enemigo con una conexión aérea entre Geno y Brock Bowers, un pase de 28 yardas que de inmediato encendió a la Raider Nation.
"Ese pase marcó la pauta sin duda", declaró Smith. "Fue una gran atrapada. Sabíamos que esa era la jugada para arrancar, y si veía a un safety o a cualquier defensivo en marcación individual con él, iba a aprovecharlo. Hizo una gran recepción y nos prendió a todos. Me dio gusto verlo tener ese momento para él. Pero como dije, tenemos que seguir mejorando".
Tras solo ver acción en una serie durante la visita ante Seattle, ahora Geno pudo encontrar ritmo al estar sobre el emparrillado a lo largo de dos de ellas ante San Francisco, logrando completar 6 de sus 8 pases para 55 yardas, comandando a Las Vegas a dos series anotadoras y dejando el campo con el equipo al frente 10-3.
"Creo que tuvimos algunas buenas jugadas y otras en las que pudimos mejorar, para eso es la pretemporada", aseguró Smith. "Tenemos que seguir compitiendo para crecer, y esta será una semana importante para nosotros. Ya tuvimos dos juegos para ver dónde estamos, y ahora nos toca enfocarnos en mejorar lo que hace falta. Hay mucho espacio para progresar y un camino largo por recorrer, pero estoy emocionado de volver al trabajo".
Del defensivo, Maxx Crosby hizo sentir su presencia contra la ofensiva de los 49ers, la cual arrancó el partido con su mariscal de campo titular Brock Purdy, quien completó dos pases seguidos que pusieron a San Francisco cerca de la mitad del campo para iniciar el juego. Hicieron la transicion al ataque terrestre para sus siguientes dos jugadas, las cuales vieron a la linea defensiva negro y plata perforar los bloqueos, donde Crosby fue parte del choque para obtener dos tacleadas para pérdida de yardaje consecutivas, mostrando como 'Madd Maxx' siempre busca tener impacto en un partido.

"En pretemporada sabes que tendrás solo una serie y piensas: 'tengo que hacer una jugada'", dijo Crosby sobre su mentalidad de cara a detener al rival detrás de la línea de golpeo. "A veces presionas de más y no sale como quieres. En el primer juego me dijeron que tendría tres jugadas, luego fueron un par más y terminé. Era apenas volver a sentir el campo. Ahora me sentí mejor, y poder hacer jugadas de impacto fue increíble. Estar ahí con mis compañeros es lo que importa. Pero ya estamos cada vez más cerca del fútbol americano real, y estoy muy emocionado".
Por segundo partido de pretemporada consecutivo, la defensa de los Malosos generó una pérdida de balón, de nueva cuenta con un safety consiguiendo una intercepción. En esta ocasión fue Jeremy Chinn quien brincó la ruta del mariscal de campo suplente de los 49ers Mac Jones para regresarle el ovoide al ataque titular de los Raiders, quienes en su primera serie se conformaron con un gol de campo, pero en la segunda canjearon la pérdida de balón por un touchdown con una serie balanceada.
El novato Ashton Jeanty terminó el partido con 7 acarreos para 33 yardas, con 20 de ellas llegando en esta serie que concluyó con su primera anotación portando los colores negro y plata. Después de un debut difícil contra los Halcones Marinos, Jeanty dejó muy buenas sensaciones contra San Francisco a pesar de que su tiempo de juego fue limitado, pero el cual le está permitiendo empezar a acostumbrarse a la intensidad de la NFL.
"Creo que lo estoy manejando bien", aseveró Jeanty sobre las tacleadas recibidas, una de las cuales lo mandó a la carpa médica por algunos minutos. "Todos los días en las prácticas me enfrento a linebackers como Devin White o Elandon Roberts que juegan de manera muy física, y nuestra defensa en general me está acostumbrando a eso, fue como un pequeño despertar. Ahora me toca regresarlas".
Tanto Raiders como 49ers no pudieron encontrar la zona de anotación poco después del inicio del segundo cuarto, con Las Vegas consiguiendo dos goles de campo en sus últimas seis posesiones y San Francisco conectando las cuatro patadas que intentaron en la segunda mitad para regresar a la Bahía con el triunfo.
Aunque la derrota duele por la forma dramática en que llegó, el balance para los Raiders es positivo. La conexión entre Smith y Bowers promete, Crosby sigue siendo un monstruo en defensa, y los jóvenes como Jeanty empiezan a aclimatarse al ritmo de la liga. Aunque también hay cosas que mejorar en el equipo, el cual tiene una semana más de trabajo durante su campo de entrenamiento previo a su último partido de pretemporada del 2025 y con la fecha del corte de plantilla acercándose cada vez más.
