Q&A with Cody Lindenberg, former Golden Gophers linebacker and avid fisherman

As the Raiders' 2025 draft picks go through their first NFL training camp, Raiders.com's Levi Edwards is sitting down with each player for a Q&A.

Dive into the interview with seventh-round pick Cody Lindenberg.

Levi Edwards: First off, I've got a few Minnesota questions for you. Where's the best place to get a Juicy Lucy burger in your opinion?

Cody Lindenberg: "Me personally, I'm not a big Juicy Lucy guy. But if I were to go get one, on Minnesota's campus there's one spot I would go to called Blue Door. They've got some really good wings too."

LE: I'm not sure how familiar you are with this Minneapolis native's discography, but what's your favorite Prince song, if you have one?

CL: "It's pretty basic, but Purple Rain. It's just so iconic. I didn't grow up listening to too much myself, but my parents absolutely love Prince and we drove by Paisley Park a good amount."

LE: Who are some players that've inspired you?

CL: "Number one, Luke Kuechly. The way that he studied, the way that he prepared but also the way that he flipped that switch when he went on a football field. He seemed like the most genuine guy off the field, but business is business when you get out there. I think his preparation and his study, it took his game to the utmost highest level. You see all of the clips of people that he played against on the offensive side of the ball saying he was calling out about 50 percent of their plays.

"I think that for me really sticks out because if you can do all those things on the field, hit and run and you can do all those intangibles and you can add all the film on top of that and know what's coming before it even happens, it just makes an astronomical difference."

LE: How much do those preseason reps mean to you?

CL: "It's hard to really sit back and I think appreciate where you're at just because you know how much more you have in store and how much better we can get, especially for myself. So, it's hard for me to sit back and be like, 'Geez, this is awesome.' This is an amazing opportunity God has blessed me with to be able to be on this football field. To be able to look back on it now, I have a lot of gratitude in my heart for that and for me, it's just going out there to have a blast. It's a game at the end of the day, but it's also going out there and enjoying it with the guys around you because that's what it all about."

LE: Lastly, do you have any secret talents?

CL: "I don't know if I would consider this a secret talent, but I consider myself a good fisherman – an angler. My dad and my uncle taught me, and I'm not talking about just going out there and flipping a lew out there and hoping to catch something. I feel like they've taught me land structure under the water, time of year, water temperature, everything like that. I have a pretty good understanding of what you're going after and what would be a good throw that time of that year.

"I didn't even know there were fish in Lake Mead. It's just obviously so much different from Minnesota where you can literally drive 20 minutes in any direction and find a body a water. Once we get some time, whenever that might be, once that happens I'd love to get out there with the guys."
